Foundation Awards $4.5 Million
in Basic Support Grants
St. Louis -Forty-eight
Missouri organizations have received a share of $4.5 million
in grants from Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) as part
of its Basic Support funding effort. The two-year Basic Support
grants help organizations maintain existing programs and services.
To date in 2006, the Foundation has awarded $25 million in
Basic Support funding to organizations across Missouri.
Those organizations receiving Basic Support grants are:
Annie's Hope: The Bereavement Center for Kids, Glendale,
$38,367. This grant funds salaries for the organization, which
provides support services to grieving children in the St.
Louis area.
Boone County Council on Aging, Columbia, $57,537. Funding
provides operational support to the organization, which connects
seniors to resources in Boone County.
CarcinAid Foundation, Creve Coeur, $20,000. Funding
offsets salary and supply costs to the organization, which
serves uninsured and underinsured St. Louis-area women with
breast cancer.
Children's Center of Southwest Missouri, Joplin, $58,218.
This grant enables the organization to continue providing
assistance and medical supplies for victims of child abuse.
Community Alliance for Compassionate Care at the End of
Life, Springfield, $100,000. Funding supports salaries
and office equipment for the organization, which provides
services to improve the quality of life for terminally ill
individuals in the area.
Community Health Clinic of Joplin, Joplin, $100,000.
This grant funds salaries for the organization, which provides
primary medical and dental treatment, screenings and other
services to people in need.
COPE, Inc., Lebanon, $50,000. Funding support for the
organization enables it to continue offering help to victims
of domestic violence in south-central Missouri.
Deaconess Parish Nurse Ministries, St.
Louis, $96,912. Funding supports salary costs for the organization,
which provides health education, counseling and other services.
East Carter County Volunteer Ambulance District,
Ellsinore, $84,644. This grant provides salary support for
this southern Missouri ambulance district.
Easter Seals Missouri, Inc., St. Louis,
$100.000. Funding enables the organization to continue providing
health care and other services to children and adults with
physical and developmental disabilities.
Eden Heritage Foundation, Vienna, $100,000.
This grant allows the organization to maintain its Alzheimer's
care unit at Maries Manor in central Missouri.
Family Support Network, St. Louis, $99,374.
Funding offsets salary costs of the organization, which works
to prevent child abuse and neglect through cost-free counseling
and education.
Gambrill Gardens, Ellisville, $98,926.
Funding provides salary support and the replacement of office
equipment for the organization, which works to help St. Louis-area
seniors live independently.
Gateway Chapter Paralyzed Veterans, St.
Louis, $99,619. This grant provides salary support to the
organization, which assists veterans with spinal cord injuries.
Good Samaritan Boys Ranch, Brighton,
$99,620. Funding enables this southwest Missouri organization
to continue serving abused and neglected teen boys.
The Haven of Grace, St. Louis, $100,000.
This grant funds staffing of the organization's shelters for
homeless, pregnant women.
Howard Park Early Childhood Center, Ellisville,
$98,856. Funding enables the organization to provide physical
therapy to St. Louis-area infants and young children with
developmental delays.
Iron County Health Department, Ironton,
$99,986. This grant provides operational support to the southeastern
Missouri county health department.
Jinna Development, St. Louis, $98,240.
Supplies and salary support are provided through this grant
for the organization's Hip Hop Health program, aimed at preventing
obesity in area youth.
Laclede County Health Department, Lebanon,
$26,780. This grant funding helps the central Missouri county
update its computer network system.
Lawrence County Health Department, Mt.
Vernon, $98,300. This grant supports the southwest Missouri
department, and funds office and medical equipment purchases.
Lemay Child & Family Center, St.
Louis, $68,974. Funding enables the center to continue providing
early childhood education, health referrals and other services
to children and their families.
Lutheran Family & Children's Services
of Missouri, St. Louis, $195,129. The organization, which
provides information and services to pregnant women, receives
a grant to help with salary and operational costs.
Marceline Community Health Center, Marceline,
$100,000. Funding supports salaries for the health center,
which serves Linn County residents in north central Missouri.
Mark Twain Area Counseling Center, Hannibal,
$99,955. This grant purchases new computer equipment for the
northeast Missouri mental health center.
MBCH Children and Family Ministries,
Bridgeton, $200,000. Funding provides staff salaries for this
St. Louis-area foster care organization.
Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, St. Louis,
$197,841. This grant enables the organization to replace kitchen
equipment used to deliver meals and other services to 26 senior
centers.
Neighborhood Houses, St. Louis, $85,617.
Funding provides the organization with health education supplies
and equipment to serve low-income, at-risk children.
New Hope GYN Cancer Support Group, Springfield,
$58,406. This grants funds salaries and supplies to the organization,
which serves area women diagnosed with gynecological cancer
and their families.
Newton County Health Department, Neosho,
$99,906. This grant offsets salary and office expenses for
the southwest Missouri health department.
Osage County Community Living, Inc.,
Linn, $65,991. This grant provides salaries and supplies to
help the organization address the health needs of developmentally
disabled adults in north central Missouri.
Our Lady's Inn, St. Louis, $96,495. This
grant enables the organization to continue providing medical
supplies for high-risk pregnant women.
Ozark Tri-County Healthcare Consortium, Inc.,
Neosho, $94,845. Funding offsets operational and supplies
costs of the organization, which provides medical, dental
and mental health services to the uninsured in southwest Missouri.
Pemiscot County Health Center, Hayti,
$99,988. This grant provides salary and operational support
to the Bootheel health organization.
Phelps/Maries County Health Department,
Rolla, $98,300. Funding enables the organization to continue
providing prenatal services and educational classes in central
Missouri.
Places for People, St. Louis, $100,000.
This grant provides salary support to the organization, which
helps people with mental illnesses to live independently.
Project Cope, St. Louis, $62,931. Funding
allows the organization to continue meeting the medical and
dental needs for ex-offenders re-entering the community.
Pulaski County Health Department, Crocker,
$100,000. Funding provides for salary and supplies expenses
for this central Missouri health department.
Putnam County Memorial Hospital, Unionville,
$194,182. The grant provides operational support for this
north central Missouri hospital.
Ralls County Health Department, New London,
$99,632. Funding offsets salaries and supply costs for this
northeast Missouri health department.
St. Louis Christian Chinese Community Service
Center, St. Louis, $45,602. Funding enables the organization
to continue providing health care to uninsured and underinsured
individuals.
St. Martha's Hall, St. Louis, $100,000.
Funding supports salaries and office equipment purchases for
the organization, which serves victims of domestic violence.
Scotland County Health Department, Memphis,
$93,387. This grant purchases safety seats for infants and
toddlers and also provides salary support for the northeast
Missouri organization.
Twin Pike Family YMCA, Louisiana, $100,000.
This grant covers operational costs of the northeast Missouri
organization.
Twin Pines Adult Care Center, Kirksville,
$161,038. Funding provides salary support for this skilled
nursing facility in northeast Missouri.
Volunteers in Medicine, St. Charles,
$27,230. This grant provides operational support for the organization,
which provides medical care to the uninsured in the northwest
St. Louis area.
Washington County Community Partnership,
Potosi, $99,815. This grant supports the organization's "Smiley
Faces" oral health program, which serves families in
east central Missouri.
West Carter County Ambulance, Van Buren,
$99,678. Funding provides salary support for the ambulance
district located in southern Missouri.
Established in 2000 through the for-profit
conversion of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri, MFH is the
largest non-governmental funder of community health activities
in the state. MFH is in its fourth year of grantmaking, issuing
more than $180 million in grants and awards to date. It is
dedicated to serving the uninsured, underinsured and underserved
in 84 Missouri counties and the City of St. Louis.
