Foundation Awards $5.8 Million
to 50 Organizations
Fifty Missouri organizations
have received a share of $5,831,054 in grants from Missouri
Foundation for Health (MFH) to provide improved health care
opportunities to residents within the MFH service area.
The funding comes through three MFH programs: Tobacco Prevention
& Cessation Initiative (TPCI), Healthy & Active Communities
Initiative (H&AC) and Basic Support.
The Center for Tobacco Policy Research at St. Louis University
received a $535,148 grant to continue its evaluation of the
work being done by community-based and regional TPCI grantees.
TPCI is a multi-phase funding effort to reduce and prevent
tobacco use among Missourians.
Saint Louis University received a $300,984 grant to
evaluate the progress of H&AC grantees that are developing
programs to reduce obesity in their local communities and
encourage healthy and active lifestyles.
MFH's Basic Support program funds ongoing activities that
are central to the mission of non-profit organizations. The
48 organizations receiving funding through this program are:
Adair County Chapter, American Red Cross, Kirksville,
$36,590. Funding provides emergency relief and disaster training
programs in north central Missouri.
Adair County Family YMCA, Kirksville, $100,000. This
grant supports health education and obesity prevention programs
in the community.
American Red Cross, Audrain Montgomery County Chapter,
Mexico, $29,000. Funding provides disaster training and emergency
relief in Audrain and Montgomery counties.
American Red Cross, Greater Ozarks Chapter, Springfield,
$200,000. This grant funds disaster training and emergency
relief to 22 counties in southwest Missouri.
American Red Cross, Mid-Missouri Chapter, Columbia,
$100,000. This grant funds disaster training and emergency
relief to seven counties in central Missouri.
American Red Cross - Northeast Missouri Chapter, Hannibal,
$77,790. Funding provides disaster training and emergency
relief to seven counties in northeast Missouri.
Anthropaideia Foundation, St. Louis, $100,000.
Funding provides mental health programs for uninsured, underserved
individuals in the St. Louis area.
Boonslick Heartland YMCA, Boonville, $100,000. Funding
helps the organization provide nutrition education and obesity
prevention programs in central Missouri.
Bootheel Food Bank, Sikeston, $100,000. Funding enables
the organization to distribute food to needy families in southeast
Missouri.
Butler County Community Resource Council, Poplar Bluff,
$100,000. This grant provides addiction prevention training
and services to families in Butler County.
Butler County Council on Aging, Inc., Poplar Bluff,
$100,000. This funding provides nutrition and health services
to elderly living in southeast Missouri.
Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, Springfield,
$100,000. Funding provides free mammograms, education and
support programs to the area's uninsured/underinsured.
Camp Hickory Hill for Diabetic Children, Columbia,
$41,074. This grant provides diabetes management programs
to children ages 8-17.
Catholic Family Services, St. Louis, $100,000. Funding
enables the organization to provide mental health services
for the area indigent.
Children's Home Society of Missouri, St. Louis, $200,000.
Funding provides respite, residential and hospice care to
area infants and young children with disabilities.
Citizens for AIDS Assistance & Prevention, Springfield,
$200,000. This grant enables the organization to provide primary
care and HIV services to uninsured people living in southwest
Missouri.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Southwest Missouri,
Springfield, $100,000. This grant funds support services for
area victims of child abuse and neglect.
Dexter Community Regional Healthcare Foundation, Dexter,
$100,000. This grant provides mental health, suicide prevention
and maternal/child healthcare services for uninsured/underinsured
individuals in southeast Missouri.
Family Counseling Center, Inc., Kennett, $200,000.
Funding provides psychological and psychiatric assistance
and support for individuals in southeast Missouri living with
mental illness.
4-Sight Counseling, Cape Girardeau, $100,000. This
grant enables the organization to provide mental health services
to area children suffering from severe emotional distress.
Giant Steps of St. Louis, St. Louis, $100,000. Funding
supports therapeutic and educational autism services to the
underserved population in St. Louis.
Give Kids a Smile, Inc., St. Peters, $100,000. Funding
provides dental services for St. Charles County children who
are uninsured or underinsured.
Great Mines Health Center, Potosi, $200,000. Funding
provides primary healthcare services to the poor in southeast
Missouri.
Harmony in Life, St. Louis, $65,000. Funding enables
the organization to provide mental health services to underserved
populations in St. Louis.
Home Parenteral Services, Springfield, $200,000. Funding
enables the organization to provide home health care and infusion
services to area individuals.
Independent Living Resource Center, Inc., Jefferson
City, $100,000. Funding provides transportation services to
older adults with disabilities in five central Missouri counties.
Jamestown New Horizons, St. Louis, $84,000. This grant
enables the organization to promote health and quality of
life for people with disabilities through therapeutic horseback
riding who live in the metropolitan area.
Lost & Found, Springfield, $77,540. Funding enables
the organization to provide grief support programs to children
and families in southwest Missouri.
Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., Missouri Chapter,
St. Louis, $68,000. Funding provides support services to area
individuals with lupus and educational programs for the community.
Magnificat Center, Inc., St. Louis, $100,000. This
grant enables the organization to provide respite care and
referral services for children at risk for child abuse in
the area.
Marceline Area Nutrition Program, Inc., Marceline,
$66,000. Funding provides food and nutritional counseling
for the elderly in north central Missouri.
Mississippi County Caring Communities, Charleston,
$68,000. Funding provides medical care, support and counseling
services to families in Mississippi County.
Missouri Hepatitis C Alliance, Columbia, $24,000. Funding
enables the organization to provide information, support and
screenings to people in mid-Missouri at risk for Hepatitis
C.
Naylor Senior Citizens Association, Naylor, $72,428.
Funding provides meals and preventive health care services
to the elderly in Ripley and Butler counties.
Operation Food Search, Inc., St. Louis, $100,000. This
grant enables the organization to provide food and nutrition
services to the area needy.
Ozarks Counseling Center, Springfield, $100,000. Funding
provides mental health services to individuals living in southwest
Missouri.
Ozarks Family YMCA, Mountain Grove, $100,000. Funding
provides nutrition and fitness programs for individuals living
in south central Missouri.
Ozarks Food Harvest, Springfield, $200,000. This grant
supports the organization's efforts to distribute food and
provide nutrition services to the underserved in southwest
Missouri.
Ozark Valley Community Services, Inc., Ironton, $100,000.
Funding provides support services for area individuals with
developmental disabilities.
Prevention Consultants of Missouri, Rolla, $100,000.
Funding assists the organization in providing substance abuse
prevention and counseling programs in mid-Missouri.
Primrose Place, Springfield, $200,000. Funding enables
this southwest Missouri organization to provide residential
care for the sick, elderly and disabled.
Queen of Peace Center, St. Louis, $100,000. Funding
provides treatment and services to uninsured area women and
children affected by mental health and substance abuse disorders.
Rainbow Activity Center, Inc., Union, $100,000. This
grant provides funding for habilitative training to adults
with developmental disabilities living in east central Missouri.
Safe Connections, St. Louis, $100,000. Funding provides
education, counseling and crisis intervention for area victims
of sexual abuse and domestic violence.
Saint Louis Crisis Nursery, St. Louis, $100,000. Funding
helps the organization provide crisis intervention and services
for the area's abused children.
Salt River Community Health Center, Hannibal, $100,000.
This grant enables the northeast Missouri organization to
provide primary care and dental services to the uninsured.
Self Help Center, Inc., St. Louis, $63,000. This grant
funds mental health services and support programs for area
poor.
Sickle Cell Disease Community Advocates, Inc., St.
Louis, $22,500. With this funding, the organization continues
providing public education, outreach and support programs
for sickle cell awareness.
Established in 2000, MFH is the largest
non-governmental funder of community health activities in
Missouri. MFH is in its sixth year of grantmaking, having
issued more than $280 million in grants and awards to date.
It is dedicated to serving the uninsured, underinsured and
underserved in 84 Missouri counties and the City of St. Louis.
