Show Me Series Report 9: Health Insurance Coverage of Dual-Income Families
The Free-Rider Effect and the Cost to Employers

This paper shows that companies providing health insurance to the spouses of their employees are assuming additional health care costs of more than $46 billion nationally, including $891 million for companies in the state of Missouri. It examines the “free-rider effect,” and the distribution of costs associated with employer-sponsored insurance (ESI) among dual-income families.

Report 8: Comparison of Missouri Uninsurance Survey Data Sources

This paper compares two recent surveys, the Missouri Health Care Insurance and Access (MHCIA) Survey and the Current Population Survey (CPS), which found differing percentages of Missourians that were uninsured in 2004. It discusses the sampling procedures and methodologies of each survey, concludes that the MHCIA provides a low estimate while CPS provides a high estimate and offers a new estimate for the numbers and percentages of Missourians that are uninsured.

Report 7: Profiles of Medicaid Reform A Look at Other States

This paper profiles five states (Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Oregon and Tennessee) and examines recent changes implemented in their Medicaid programs. The discussion considers the various Medicaid cost-containment measures used by these states, as well as the effect the changes have had both in terms of cost savings and human impact.
