A TRUE SURVIVOR - Breaking free from domestic violence takes courage, help and luck. Kelli Neel had all three when she found Christos House in southern Missouri a few years ago. Today, she's a counselor at the shelter, paying it forward by sharing her story and helping other women break the cycle of domestic violence.

PRESCRIPTION LIFELINE - What do you do when you can't afford the medication you or a family member needs? It's a problem many Missourians, like Brenda Moore, face daily. With the help of the Regional Healthcare Foundation, located in the Bootheel, she was able to navigate a maze of paperwork and get her father's prescriptions filled for free through the pharmaceutical companies' drug assistance programs.

JOPLIN RESPONSE - Rebuilding lives is the most important "next step" in the aftermath of an emergency. When an EF5 tornado decimated Joplin in May 2011, southwest Missouri nonprofits turned to MFH to provide much-needed emergency funds just days after the disaster. MFH's emergency funding program is designed to jump-start efforts to connect those affected to the physical and mental health services they so desperately need.

AQUA ABILITY shows Doug Bingaman's determination to retain limited mobility despite serious physical issues. He does this by participating in a program at Show Me Aquatics & Fitness. Based in St. Charles County, the organization provides water therapy for adults and children coping with developmental and permanent physical disabilities.

MORE THAN A MEAL focuses on Jeff Sagers, who participates in Putnam County's Meals on Wheels program. Available across the state, these home delivery programs provide daily nutrition and enable more elderly Missourians to remain healthy and in their homes. For Sagers, like many seniors, the program is both an economic necessity and a lifeline to the outside world.

A QUITTER'S FIGHT is the story of Joyce Hyche, who kicked a 40-year smoking habit after taking classes at Barton County Memorial Hospital in southwest Missouri. Despite a grave lung cancer diagnosis, she continues to fight and to caution others about the dangers of smoking.

WALKING SCHOOL BUS is the story of a successful program that's putting a new twist on the traditional ways of getting to school. The effort, spearheaded by the PedNet Coalition, encourages students to get daily exercise as they walk to school together safely, supervised by parents.
