MFH Funding Framework

About Us
Missouri Foundation for Health has restructured its funding framework, with a goal of helping communities develop locally-based solutions and partnerships that will improve the health of their residents.  This new structure enables MFH to:

• Be more responsive to community needs.

• Better integrate efforts that support long-term, sustainable improvements in the health of all residents.

The new framework will be used to guide MFH’s 2012 funding efforts.  This framework does not impact any MFH grants approved prior to Dec. 31, 2011.

Five funding areas comprise the framework:
• Community Health and Prevention
• External Programs
• Health Policy
• Services Delivery
• Systems Development

MFH also is continuing two “cross-cutting” funding efforts:
• Basic Support
• Emergency Funding

MFH is working to fully develop specific funding opportunities for each area. Turn to the Funding Programs Overview page for the most current information; it will be updated regularly as programs are developed.

QUICK LOOK

Community Health and Prevention:  Community-based partnerships and collaborations are emphasized with funding provided in this area.  Activities supported through three MFH funding programs (Healthy & Active Communities, Social Innovation in Missouri, and Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Initiative) are part of this area in 2012.

External Programs: This area continues in 2012 to focus on helping Missouri organizations become stronger, through capacity building, workshops and training opportunities, and through technical assistance to help them capture more grant funds.  This area includes MFH’s MoCAP program.

Health Policy:  This MFH area continues to focus on supporting organizations to address health issues from a systemic perspective through informing the policymaking process.  General Support for Advocacy remains a funding opportunity for 2012.

Services Delivery: Improved integration of health services within a community is the major focus of this area.  Activities supported through four MFH funding programs (Chronic Care, Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Patient-Centered Medical Home, and Women’s Health) are part of this area in 2012.

Systems Development:  Developing infrastructures that support access to quality health care for all Missouri residents is the major focus on this area.  This area supports two MFH funding programs (Health Care Workforce Development and Health Literacy) in 2012.

NEXT STEPS FOR ORGANIZATIONS

In previous years, MFH has been able to provide a significant amount of detail by October about its funding opportunities for the coming year.  However, that is not the case this year. MFH is working to flesh out the framework described above.
