Medicaid Resource Just What the Doctor Ordered

Latest paper details the Missouri-run system and its design and function

St. Louis, February 15 -"Missouri Medicaid Basics" was released today by the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH); the only paper of its kind that clearly outlines the basic facets of the state's Medicaid system. Highlighted components include key programs, eligibility and delivery systems of the state administered program, as well as current data on the numbers enrolled and the dollars spent in state fiscal year 2004. Just twelve pages, this paper breaks down the often complicated system and covers the fundamentals of the program. Hard copies will be sent to policy makers in Jefferson City in the hopes that it will be used as an educational tool.

This paper is available online at http://www.mffh.org/policy_papers.html. Hard copies are also available by request at tbates@mffh.org.

"Missouri Medicaid Basics" was prepared by MFH in support of its mission to undertake policy studies on topics of significance to the Foundation service area and beyond. This document is one of a series of publications MFH is creating to convey information about current health related issues of interest to policymakers and the general public.

Established in January of 2000 through the for-profit conversion of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri, MFH is the largest health care foundation in the state and the second largest health conversion foundation in the country. Its mission is to improve the health of the people in the communities it serves. Current assets stand at approximately $1.1 billion.

For additional information regarding MFH and health policy studies, contact the Foundation at (314) 345-5500, (800) 655-5560 or visit the Web site at www.mffh.org.
